Scythe is great - I have about 50 plays including the Rise of Fenris expansion campaign. I have not played Gaia Project but I have heard great things about it. I did not enjoy it at all, but I'll keep my various criticisms to myself and simply cast a vote for Scythe. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I do not understand what is so appealing about Spirit Island from a gameplay perspective. There's even fan-made content out there, which is obviously going to be of varying quality, but still can add more spice down the road. Two expansions, both apparently very good, and the sense I'm getting from the base game is tons of potential for more content. Base game gives you tons of content (I've played eight games so far and I'm still not through it all.) The theme is consistent throughout the rules and gameplay, nothing feels out of place and once the gameplay loop clicks, it all makes sense and flows nicely. The art is really nice to look at, pretty bright and colorful. It makes for a wonderfully paced tutorial process where you're not forced to just learn everything all at once. You can get familiar with the basic game rules, completely stripped of extras, and then when you're used to that, add something new. It's a bit complex, but also designed in such a nice way that you can slowly incorporate the different layers of complexity over time. Replay value is absurd, it's addicting and relatively quick to setup (10 mins max).
